The opening ceremony of the cross-border railway was held in Afghanistan, which connected the Afghan Herat with the city of Khaf in Iran.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid attended the opening of the road.

He spoke about the potential of Iran-Afghan trade and transport cooperation, stressing that Kabul needs this partnership to guarantee security and stability for the country's population.

The same official ceremony was held in Iran.

The opening ceremony was attended by the governor of the province of Khorasan Rezavi-Yakub Ali Nazari.

"With the launch of the only railway route between Iran and Afghanistan, our country's exports to Afghanistan will accelerate and increase," Nazari said, according to IRNA.

According to initial estimates, the logistics capacity of the road is 6 million tons of goods per year.

The new railway route closes the East-West logistics chain, stretching from China through Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey to European states.

Earlier, the Iranian Ambassador to Kabul, Hassan Kazemi Qumi, raised the issue of idle road Khaf - Herat at a meeting with the head of the Afghan Railways Bahturakhman Sharafat.

The ambassador then noticed that in the two years that had passed since the opening of the track, only training trains ran along the route.
