In Kyrgyzstan, Kumtor is not only driver of industry

In recent years, the contribution of Kyrgyzstan's largest gold mining enterprise, the Kumtor mine, to the country's industrial production volume has been gradually decreasing. This is evidenced by data from the National Statistics Committee of Kyrgyzstan over the past five years, reports Akchabar.

In 2019, the total industrial output in the country amounted to 283.9 billion soms, or $3.34 billion, of which 154.8 billion soms, or $1.82 billion, was produced excluding Kumtor. At that time, the mine's contribution exceeded 45% of the total output.

By 2023, despite significant growth in total industrial production to 495.3 billion soms or $5.82 billion, enterprises not related to Kumtor reached 313.9 billion soms. Thus, Kumtor's share fell to approximately 37%, and the enterprise's weight in the industrial structure decreased by more than 8 percentage points.

This decline indicates increasing diversification in Kyrgyzstan’s industrial sector, with a growing share of other industries.
