Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mahdi Safari and Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov discussed in Ashgabat issues of developing cooperation in the fuel and energy, transport and transit sectors between the two countries, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported. .
On the eve of the meeting, Minister Meredov spoke on the phone with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian about "expanding mutually beneficial cooperation," the Iranian news agency IRNA reported.
The foreign ministers of the two countries also called each other by phone on December 20, 2022. According to IRNA, the Iranian side was interested in the transit of Turkmen gas through Iran.
On December 11, Meredov met with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Reza Najafi in Ashgabat, at which Najafi conveyed an invitation to the Turkmen Foreign Minister to visit Iran.
