Iranian companies will build a 125 km gas pipeline and three gas compressor stations in Turkmenistan to expand the supply of Turkmen gas to Iran, a statement of the Turkmenistan's MFA says.

Turkmenistan and Iran have maintained mutually beneficial relations in the gas industry for many years, the statement says.

Negotiations between the Turkmen and Iranian sides took place in Ashgabat from July 1 to 3. A whole range of issues related to further cooperation in the gas sector was discussed.

To expand the gas transportation infrastructure, Iranian companies will build a new 125 km gas pipeline and three gas compressor stations in Turkmenistan, necessary for the supply of additional volumes of gas to Iran.

As emphasized by the Turkmen MFA, in addition to the existing capacities, it is planned to increase the volumes of gas supplied to Iran via the Dowletabad-Serakhs-Hangeran directions and through the Chalyuk gas measuring station to 40 billion cubic meters per year.

As a result, Ashgabat and Tehran signed a contract for the supply of 10 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Turkmenistan to Iraq through Iran.
