The NCOC consortium, responsible for the development of one of the largest oil and gas fields in Kazakhstan, Kashagan, has resumed oil production, Kursiv reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.

Kashagan is the first offshore oil and gas field in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea. The recoverable reserves of the field range from 9 billion to 13 billion barrels of oil. Commercial production there began on November 1, 2016. In 2023, 18.8 million tons of oil were produced at the field, and 12.7 million tons in 2022.

The overhaul has been completed, and oil production has begun. Full commissioning is scheduled for today, November 1.

During the scheduled maintenance, which began on October 7, Kazakhstan significantly reduced oil production volumes; approximately 400 thousand barrels per day were not supplied to the market. This allows the country to compensate for the overfulfillment of oil production volumes earlier under the agreement with OPEC+.
