A Regional Center for Nuclear Energy Knowledge and Competence will be established in Tashkent. This is envisaged by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, Daryo.uz reports.
The establishment of the Regional Center for Nuclear Energy Knowledge and Competence in Tashkent demonstrates Uzbekistan's commitment to becoming a key hub for training personnel for the nuclear industry in Central Asia. With the construction of its first nuclear power plant underway, the country is focusing not only on developing its own energy sector but also on building a scientific and educational base capable of serving the needs of the entire region.
This step reflects the growing interest of Central Asian states in nuclear energy as a source of stable electricity generation. Kazakhstan has already made a political decision to build its first nuclear power plant and views it as a tool for strengthening energy security. Kyrgyzstan is also exploring the use of small modular reactors, and Tajikistan, with its significant hydroelectric potential, is interested in developing nuclear technologies, primarily in the scientific and medical fields, not ruling out their possible long-term application in the energy sector.
Under these conditions, a regional center in Tashkent could become a platform for training engineers, exchanging experience, and disseminating uniform nuclear and radiation safety standards. This is particularly important, as the development of nuclear energy requires highly qualified specialists, effective government regulation, and strict adherence to international requirements.
Thus, Uzbekistan is strengthening its position not only as a country building its first nuclear power plant, but also as a potential educational and expert center for the nuclear industry in Central Asia. If neighboring states continue to show interest in peaceful nuclear energy, the importance of such a center will only increase, facilitating the development of regional cooperation in high technology and energy security.
