Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov announced plans to significantly increase the production of fuels and lubricants at a government meeting chaired by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the press service of the President of Kazakhstan reports.
“Currently, measures are being taken to increase the resource base of hydrocarbon raw materials and production capacities for its further processing. To cover the shortage of fuels and lubricants in the domestic market, it is planned to expand the capacity of the Shymkent refinery from 6 to 12 million tons per year. To load it with raw materials, it is planned to implement projects to expand the Atyrau-Kenkiyak and Kenkiyak-Kumkol oil pipelines,” Smailov said.
The Prime Minister of Kazakhstan also spoke about the measures currently being taken to increase the resource base of hydrocarbon raw materials and production capacities for its further processing. Thus, construction of a new gas processing plant in the city of Zhanaozen with a capacity of 900 million cubic meters will be launched this year.
“In general, legislative norms have been adopted in the gas sector, which will make it possible to obtain an additional 4 billion cubic meters. m of commercial gas per year. In the field of petrochemicals, a project is being implemented for the production of butadiene and its derivatives with a capacity of 319 thousand tons per year. At the same time, a complex for the production of polyethylene with a capacity of 1.2 million tons per year is being designed. The total investment will amount to $8.7 billion,” the head of government said.
