Kazakhstan and China intend to jointly develop Trans-Caspian international transport route

The Government of Kazakhstan has put into effect an agreement with the Government of China for the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM). The document specifies the joint provision of the growth of TMTM's competitiveness, including the construction of transportation infrastructure, the implementation of advanced cargo transportation technologies, the development of multimodal transportation using various modes of transport.

It is emphasized that to further develop the TMTM, the parties ensure coordination and take the necessary measures in the following directions:

  • Ensuring proper operational condition and sufficient capacity of transportation infrastructure facilities on the territory of both countries.
  • Strengthening cooperation between the transportation regulatory authorities and enterprises, jointly creating a conducive environment to support the stable and effective operation of TMTM.
  • Implementing targeted, practical, and effective epidemic prevention measures along the route in both directions.
  • Implementing a mechanism of advance notification between the parties to prevent the halt of international freight vehicles on the territories of both countries.
  • Exploring optimal options for organizing transportation and both parties tapping into transit cargo sources to facilitate the passage of trains or vehicles engaged in transit transportation within their respective territories.
  • Attracting transit and foreign trade cargo from China to Europe via TMTM and in the opposite direction; facilitating the financing of port infrastructure projects along TMTM.
  • Facilitating the reduction of administrative barriers related to the processing of multimodal cargo at ports and intermodal stations.
  • Optimizing logistics and transportation operations, reducing transportation time, and improving the quality of services provided.
  • Participation in forecasting the annual potential cargo turnover of TMTM.
