The British oil company Shell is one of the first foreign investors in the Kazakhstan's oil and gas industry, said President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during his speech at a ceremonial event in Astana commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Shell Group's activities in Kazakhstan, the press service of Kazkah President reports.

"In difficult times, Shell made significant investments and introduced new technologies, scientific achievements, and invaluable management experience into our economy. We sincerely appreciate this contribution. Over the past 30 years, Shell has invested more than $18 billion in our economy, strengthening its position as one of the largest foreign investors in Kazakhstan," Tokayev said.

The coordinated efforts of the Shell Group and other shareholders led to the launch of the "project of the century," Kashagan. Today, the North Caspian project accounts for nearly 20% of oil production in the country, playing a significant role in the global energy market. In addition to hydrocarbon production, the creation of infrastructure for their transportation to global markets is crucial. The Caspian Pipeline Consortium was the first successful project of this kind, emphasized the President of Kazakhstan.

The company's social responsibility was also highlighted. In its projects, Shell places special emphasis on involving local professionals in the workforce. Currently, more than 95% of employees working on the Karachaganak and Kashagan projects are citizens of Kazakhstan. Shell also actively engages youth in addressing environmental issues through initiatives like "Solar Energy for Schools," "Shell Eco-marathon," and others.
