The authorities of Kazakhstan will currently refrain from applying for BRICS membership, according to Berik Uali, adviser and press secretary to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in an interview with Tengrinews.kz.

He noted that proposals for Kazakhstan's accession to BRICS have been submitted to the President.
Proposals for Kazakhstan's accession to BRICS have been submitted to the President. Our country is recognized as a responsible and reputable member of the international community. These proposals are being carefully considered by the Head of State and are being analyzed by relevant agencies with regard to Kazakhstan’s national interests.

At the same time, for now, and most likely in the foreseeable future, Kazakhstan will refrain from submitting an application to BRICS, considering the multi-stage membership process and other factors related to the development prospects of the organization, Uali said.

When asked which organization Kazakh diplomacy will prioritize, he emphasized that Kazakhstan gives preference to the UN as a universal and irreplaceable international organization.

The President has repeatedly expressed his support for the UN as a universal and irreplaceable organization where all pressing international issues, including those related to building a just world order, can and should be discussed, Uali said.

He added that, according to Tokayev, the UN is not without flaws, but there is no other organization like it, and therefore it needs the support of the global community.
