Kazakhstan sent 2.5 million tons of grain to neighboring Central Asian countries over the past eight months of 2024, the press service of the Kazakh Government reports.

Of the total volume, 1.8 million tons were sent to Uzbekistan, 600,000 tons to Tajikistan, and 100,000 tons to Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan, the report states.

“In the first 12 days of September, 132,000 tons of grain were shipped to Central Asian countries, which is 2.5 times more than in September 2023. By the end of the month, the volume of grain shipments will reach around 250,000 tons,” said Baurzhan Urunbasarov, Director of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways).

During the same period, 1.1 million tons of grain and 494.1 thousand tons of grain-milled products were exported to China.

It was noted that the leadership of Kazakhstan tasked the Food Corporation with clearing last year’s grain from elevators to make room for the new harvest.

According to Asylkhan Zhuvashev, Chairman of the Board of JSC NC “Food Corporation,” the company planned to remove 1.5 million tons of grain from storage. In August-September 2024, 736,000 tons have already been removed.

As of September 16, 7,400 hectares of wheat had been harvested in Kazakhstan, representing 44% of the total sown area. The average yield was 14.6 quintals per hectare, with 10.8 million tons of grain threshed and 1.5 million tons sent to elevators.
