The 25th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), held on September 1 in Bishkek, marked the conclusion of Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship of the Organization for 2025–2026 and opened a new stage of its development.
The summit took place in the year of the SCO's 25th anniversary and Kyrgyzstan's 35th anniversary of independence. Its holding also coincided with the opening of the 6th World Nomad Games, lending the event additional cultural and symbolic significance.
Following the summit, 28 documents were adopted and signed, including the Bishkek Declaration dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the SCO, as well as amendments and additions to the Organization's Charter.
The documents cover a wide range of issues, including security, the fight against drug trafficking, international information security, energy, logistics, artificial intelligence, climate change, and environmental protection.
Security has remained one of the SCO's top priorities. Member states approved the provisions of the Universal Center for Countering Security Challenges and Threats and strengthened the Organization's anti-drug mechanisms.
At the same time, the summit demonstrated that the SCO agenda is gradually expanding beyond traditional security issues to encompass economic connectivity and technological development.
Of particular importance for Central Asia is the roadmap for the development of ports and logistics centers until 2030, as well as solutions in the areas of energy efficiency and energy systems.
Cooperation in artificial intelligence, digital infrastructure, and the creation of a "Green Technological Corridor" demonstrates the emergence of new areas of collaboration.
