Kyrgyzstan's real sector enterprises operating in the information and communications sector posted a net financial result of 11.4 billion soms ($130.35 million) for January–June 2026, Akchabar.kg reported.
According to the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the profits of profitable companies reached 13.4 billion soms ($153.2 million), while losses of unprofitable enterprises amounted to approximately 2 billion soms ($22.86 million).
Communications were the main source of profit: this segment accounted for 6.4 billion soms ($73.17 million). Computer equipment and information services companies contributed another 5.2 billion soms. Meanwhile, publishing, video and sound recording, television, and radio broadcasting collectively reported a loss of almost 150 million soms.
This indicator demonstrates a structural shift within the information sector: telecommunications and IT services are becoming the most resilient, while traditional media are experiencing greater financial pressure.
In a regional comparison, Kyrgyzstan demonstrates noticeable commercialization of digital services, but is significantly smaller than Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in terms of market size. For example, Kcell in Kazakhstan earned 7.9 billion tenge ($17.7 million) in net profit in the first half of 2026, with revenue growing by 10.8%. In Uzbekistan, digital revenue at the large operator Beeline grew by 23.6% in the first half of the year. In Tajikistan, communications industry revenue increased by 23.8%, reaching 2.9 billion somoni ($313.78 million).
Kyrgyzstan remains a small but dynamic digital market. Its advantage is its rapidly growing IT segment; the key challenge is converting this profit into long-term investments, exporting digital services, and developing its own technological infrastructure.
