Member countries of CSTO to finalize project to strengthen Tajik-Afghan border

There are all the possibilities to reach agreed decisions on the project of the Targeted Interstate Program of the CSTO to strengthen the Tajik-Afghan border, said Valery Semerikov, the Deputy Secretary-General of the CSTO, the CSTO press service reports.

He and Alexey Shevtsov, the Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, extended their greetings to the participants of the joint meeting of representatives of the relevant ministries and agencies of the CSTO member states and members of the Working Group on the refinement of the Program project. The meeting took place in Moscow from February 27 to March 1 under the chairmanship of Tajikistan.

Following the meeting, the draft Program and draft decisions on it by the CSTO bodies have been revised, and an agreement has been reached to submit these draft documents for consideration by the CSTO Permanent Council to decide on their further coordination with the member states of the Organization.

The CSTO Permanent Council consists of authorized representatives of the participating countries and is responsible for coordinating interaction between sessions of the CSTO Council, which includes the heads of states.

Earlier, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, stated that the republic expects the program to be approved in 2024. He indicated that the plan was initially planned for approval in 2023, but due to technical reasons, the process was postponed to the current year.

In late June 2023, the Council of Foreign Ministers of CSTO member states issued a statement on the situation in Afghanistan, in which the heads of the organization's diplomatic agencies confirmed their readiness to assist in combating emerging threats to regional security.
