President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed to the visiting President of Belarus, during his official visit to Tashkent, to launch a joint project for the production of BELAZ trucks in Uzbekistan, the Belarusian news agency BelTA reports.
During the meeting with his counterpart, Shavkat Mirziyoyev initiated the establishment of a joint venture for the production of Belarusian quarry dump trucks in Uzbekistan.
Emphasizing Uzbekistan's openness to cooperation, Mirziyoyev expressed serious intentions to develop the mining and metallurgical industry. He mentioned the need for a joint venture in Uzbekistan producing BELAZ trucks.
"We need localization. We will build copper beneficiation plants – the third, fourth, fifth. How many machines do we need? We have trained our engineers and middle-level staff to work on BELAZ trucks for so many years. Why don't we jointly produce them?" said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
On the sidelines of the II Forum of Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan, taking place in Uzbekistan, Uzbekistan's Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khojaev stated that the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Belarus could increase to $1 billion.
