New gas field launched in Southern Kazakhstan

A new gas field has been launched, three drilled wells have been recommissioned, and the "Anabay-Zharkum" gas pipeline has been constructed in Kazakhstan. The gas field is located in the Zhambyl region in the south of Kazakhstan. The company "TOO Exploration and Production QazaqGaz" carried out all construction and installation works, Neftegaz magazine reports.

The new "Anabay" field has proven reserves of 4 billion cubic meters. The investment in this project amounted to 12 billion tenge, as stated by the CEO of TOO, Almas Kuandykov.

The company "QazaqGaz" is actively working to expand its resource base. The company's project roadmap for increasing natural gas volumes includes the implementation and launch of several gas fields, including the new "Anabay" field. QazaqGaz is actively seeking licenses for geological exploration and surveying new areas to increase its own gas resource base, as confirmed by Sanzhar Zharkeev, the Chairman of the Board of QazaqGaz.

It is expected that in 2023, gas production in Kazakhstan will reach 6.5 million cubic meters, and by 2028, the production level will reach 44 million cubic meters. Gas volumes from the Anabay field will be directed to meet the needs of the domestic market.

According to the National Energy Report Kazenergy 2021, Kazakhstan ranks 16th in the world in gas reserves and fourth among CIS countries after Russia, Turkmenistan, and Azerbaijan.

Kazakhstan is a net gas exporter. According to the statistics agency, the total gas export from Kazakhstan in 2021 amounted to 16 billion cubic meters.
