In 2024, a total of 75,197 marriages were registered in Tajikistan, which is 1,247 fewer than the previous year, Bunafsha Faiziddinzoda, Chairperson of the Committee on Women and Family Affairs of Tajikistan, announced at a press conference, Avesta.tj reports.
She also noted that the number of divorces has also decreased: more than 9,000 marriages were dissolved in 2024, which is 1,000 fewer than in 2023.
However, despite the decline in divorces, domestic violence remains a pressing issue. In 2024, the Committee received over 3,200 complaints and reports related to violence. Of these:
- 2,652 complaints were filed against men,
- 554 complaints were filed against women.
Faiziddinzoda also reported that 3,246 crimes against women and girls were registered last year. At the same time, women and girls themselves committed over 1,700 crimes.
Another alarming trend is the increase in suicides and suicide attempts. In 2024, more than 400 such cases were recorded.
The Committee Chair emphasized that the agency continues its work to protect women's and family rights, as well as to prevent violence and support victims.
