On July 3, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran. During the meeting, President Rahmon expressed his condolences to the Iranian leadership and people following the tragic events in the country, the Tajik presidential press service reported.

The talks focused on developing bilateral cooperation. The leaders noted the significant role of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which has increased trade turnover between the two countries eightfold over the past five years, reaching nearly $500 million in 2025. The parties confirmed their intention to increase this figure to $1 billion in the near future.

The presidents discussed the implementation of joint projects in industry, energy, mining, agriculture, transport, road construction, tourism, and healthcare. Regional security was given special attention. Dushanbe and Tehran emphasized the need to maintain peace and stability, as well as resolve conflicts solely through political and diplomatic means. Following the talks, the parties confirmed their interest in further expanding comprehensive cooperation.

Emomali Rahmon's visit to Tehran comes amid a significant intensification of Tajik-Iranian dialogue. After a period of cooling in relations in previous years, Dushanbe and Tehran are consistently restoring political trust and strengthening economic ties. The significant increase in mutual trade and expansion of investment cooperation demonstrate that both capitals view each other as important long-term partners.

The unique historical and cultural commonality of the two peoples remains an additional factor in rapprochement. Tajiks and Iranians belong to a single Iranian civilizational space, and the Tajik and Persian languages share a common origin and maintain a high degree of mutual understanding. A shared literary heritage, cultural traditions, and centuries-old humanitarian ties create a solid foundation for political dialogue and expanded cooperation in education, science, culture, and tourism. It is this combination of economic interests and cultural affinity that is now becoming one of the key factors in the sustainable development of relations between Dushanbe and Tehran.
