The latest round of inter-ministerial political consultations between Turkmenistan and Türkiye was held in Ankara. The delegations discussed the development of bilateral relations, preparations for future high-level contacts, improvement of the legal framework, and expansion of cooperation in trade, energy, transport, and construction, Orient.tm reported.

Particular attention was paid to strengthening cooperation through the Turkmen-Turkish Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Council. The sides also reviewed consular and migration cooperation, as well as coordination of positions on international platforms, including the Organization of Turkic States.

Turkmen-Turkish relations remain highly significant for the foreign policies of both countries due to their historical, cultural, and economic ties. For Ashgabat, Türkiye is one of its key partners in trade, construction, transport, and energy, as well as an important gateway to European and Middle Eastern markets.

Energy cooperation remains a central component of bilateral relations. Türkiye is interested in strengthening the role of Central Asia in regional energy networks, while Turkmenistan seeks to diversify its energy export routes and expand access to international markets. The development of transit projects through Türkiye and the Caspian region corresponds to Ashgabat’s long-term economic interests.

Political cooperation is also gaining additional momentum within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States, where both countries support broader economic and humanitarian cooperation. At the same time, Turkmenistan’s policy of permanent neutrality allows Ashgabat to use its partnership with Türkiye as a tool for expanding international ties while maintaining a balanced foreign policy approach.

The expansion of consular and migration cooperation demonstrates the transition of bilateral relations toward a more practical level focused on protecting citizens and developing people-to-people contacts. In the coming years, Turkmen-Turkish cooperation is expected to remain focused on energy, logistics, investment, and expanding business ties between the two countries.
