Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili arrived in Bishkek on an official visit and held talks with Kyrgyz Parliament Speaker Marlen Mamataliev, reported 24.kg, citing the press service of the Zhogorku Kenesh.

Mamataliev called it the first meeting between the speakers of the two countries’ parliaments and said Kyrgyzstan wants a partnership with Georgia built on “friendship and mutual trust”. The sides discussed political, economic, cultural and inter-parliamentary ties. Mamataliev proposed closer cooperation between parliamentary committees and friendship groups and coordination on international platforms.

On the economy, Mamataliev noted that current trade does not reflect the two countries’ potential. He suggested developing cooperation in energy, agriculture, processing industries and pharmaceuticals, as well as joint investment projects. He also proposed holding Culture Days of Kyrgyzstan and Georgia and thanked Tbilisi for naming a city park after the writer Chingiz Aitmatov.

The speakers also discussed easing entry requirements for citizens of Kyrgyzstan, as a growing number of Kyrgyz travellers visit Georgia.

Papuashvili invited Mamataliev to make an official visit to Georgia. He proposed cooperation in logistics and energy, including transport corridors that revive the ancient Silk Road, and noted Georgian interest in Kyrgyzstan’s tourism potential.
