The Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have signed agreements to implement two major infrastructure projects — “Improvement of the Water Supply System in the Yavan District” and “Modernization of the District Heating System in Dushanbe,” reports Asiaplus.tj.
The total funding for the water supply project amounts to €4.8 million, including €2.4 million in loans, €2.4 million in grants, and €450,000 in technical assistance. The Dushanbe heating modernization project is valued at $6 million, half of which will be provided as a grant and the other half as a loan.
The documents were signed on October 6 in Dushanbe during a meeting between Tajikistan’s Minister of Finance Faiziddin Qahhorzoda and EBRD Vice President Mark Bowman.
During the talks, the parties discussed the EBRD’s role in supporting Tajikistan’s sustainable economic development, including infrastructure and energy projects, as well as the promotion of green finance, renewable energy, and the digitalization of public utilities.
The EBRD has recently approved a new country strategy for Tajikistan, prioritizing the expansion of green investment and improved energy efficiency.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere, and both sides expressed readiness to increase financial support for priority projects through the EBRD’s financial instruments.
To date, the EBRD has invested over €1 billion in Tajikistan’s economy through 185 projects, making it one of the country’s key partners in sustainable development.
