Tajikistan builds up trade ties with Chinese provinces

Trade turnover between Tajikistan and China in 202 reached about $2.6 billion and grew by almost 40% compared to the previous year, said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Tajikistan Ji Shumin.

China is the largest source of foreign investment in the Tajik economy: from January to September 2022, Chinese investment accounted for almost 40% of the total foreign investment attracted to Tajikistan, a Chinese diplomat said.

Such data were announced at a meeting in Dushanbe of the Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Akhliddin Nuriddinzoda, with a delegation of Chinese entrepreneurs, headed by the cultural exchange company Jilin, Fujian Province, Interfax reports.

Tajikistan intends to increase the export of goods to the province of Fujian in southeast China, the possibility of creating joint ventures, including in the territory of free economic zones of the republic, is being considered, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan reports.

"In the framework of the meeting, issues of expanding trade were discussed, including the development of exports of products from Tajikistan to the Fujian province of the People's Republic of China, the creation of joint industrial enterprises, including in the territory of free economic zones of Tajikistan, cooperation in the field of transport and agriculture," says in the message.

At the meeting, proposals were also made to strengthen cooperation in the areas of digitalization, e-commerce, the green economy, agriculture, as well as increasing the volume of exports of environmentally friendly agricultural products from Tajikistan to China.

Fujian Province is located in southeast China on the shores of the Taiwan Strait, on the other side of which is the island of Taiwan and around which tensions between mainland China and the United States are growing.
