DUSHANBE - The final session of the Fourth International High-Level Conference on the International Decade for Action, "Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028," was held in the capital of Tajikistan, Avesta.tj reports.

This latest water conference was organized by Tajikistan jointly with the UN as part of the Dushanbe Water Process.

The meeting was co-chaired by Tajik Prime Minister Kokhir Rasulzoda and UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua. Participants summarized the international dialogue on water resources, climate change, glacier conservation, and sustainable development.

It was noted that Tajikistan has been actively promoting the water agenda on the international stage for many years. The role of President Emomali Rahmon's initiatives in the adoption of water decades and glacier protection resolutions by the UN General Assembly was particularly emphasized.

The conference discussed issues of public access to drinking water and sanitation, climate resilience, transboundary cooperation, investment in water infrastructure, and preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference.

Participants also emphasized the importance of international cooperation in glacier conservation, effective water resource management, and the development of water diplomacy as a tool for building trust between states.
