Tajikistan Considers Feasibility of Building a Metro in the Capital

Tajikistan’s Minister of Transport, Azim Ibrohim, stated that it is too early to discuss specific timelines for the construction of a metro system in Dushanbe. He made this remark on January 29 during a press conference summarizing the results of 2024 in the capital of Tajikistan, Avesta.tj reports.

"If we do not yet have a feasibility study (FS), how can we talk about construction timelines? For now, the discussion is only about feasibility—whether a metro should be built or not," the minister emphasized.

According to him, work is currently underway on a preliminary feasibility study, which is expected to be completed by March–April 2025. After that, the development of the main feasibility study will begin, followed by the preparation of a detailed metro construction project.

Azim Ibrohim also noted that plans include the construction of three metro lines: from the circus to the southern, northern, and eastern gates of the capital. However, a final decision on the start of construction will only be made after all preparatory stages are completed.

The construction of a metro system in Dushanbe could be a significant step in developing the city's transportation infrastructure, which is facing increasing traffic congestion and a growing number of vehicles. However, the project requires thorough planning, including an analysis of economic feasibility and technical capabilities.
