President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, speaking at the Dushanbe Invest 2025 International Investment Forum, announced the start of attracting investments for the construction of the Shurab Hydropower Plant with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts, as well as the creation of several solar and wind power stations with a total capacity of 2,000 megawatts, reports Sputnik Tajikistan.
President Rahmon called on interested companies to invest in these promising projects, emphasizing the growing demand for electricity amid digitalization and the rapid development of new technologies.
“We intend to continue attracting investments in the green energy sector, as Tajikistan has enormous untapped potential in renewable energy sources,” Rahmon stated.
According to him, Tajikistan’s hydropower stations have an annual potential of about 527 billion kilowatt-hours, of which only 5% is currently utilized, creating unique opportunities for long-term investments in sustainable energy. The president also mentioned the country’s ongoing cooperation with Uzbekistan on the construction of two hydropower plants on the Zarafshan River, where design work has already been completed.
Special attention was given to the first transregional CASA-1000 project, which will connect the power systems of Central and South Asia. Rahmon reminded that construction on the sections in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Pakistan has already been completed, while work on the Afghan segment is nearing completion.
