Tajikistan offers Kazakhstan to develop oil and gas fields in country

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon invited the Kazakh side to develop the republic's oil and gas fields, the press service of the head of Kazakhstan reported.

The Tajik leader, who is in Kazakhstan on a state visit, noted that the partnership between the countries has acquired the character of allied interaction. The priority is cooperation in the mining and metallurgical industries.

"We have invited the Kazakh side to develop our promising oil and gas fields," Rakhmon was quoted as saying.

In January 2023, negotiations between Dushanbe and Astana on the import of oil and gas from Kazakhstan to Tajikistan were reported.

Tajikistan is currently an importer of hydrocarbons. At the end of 2022, almost 20% in the structure of Tajik imports (in value terms) accounted for oil products, liquefied gas, coal.

Tajik President Rahmon arrived in Astana on a two-day official visit. On the eve of the visit, the parties held a business forum, which was attended by more than 200 companies, representatives of the state and quasi-state sectors of the two countries.

At the end of 2022, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan made significant progress in bilateral trade and economic cooperation. Trade between the countries grew by 18.5% and reached $1.4 billion. Export deliveries of Kazakhstani goods increased by 9.7% and amounted to $877.6 million. The growth was mainly due to an increase in exports of wheat, margarine, sunflower oil, barley , hot-rolled non-alloy steel bars and other products. Imports from Tajikistan last year increased by 37.9% and amounted to $501.4 million.

During the forum, 39 commercial contracts and agreements worth over $1.8 billion were signed. These are export contracts for the supply of ferroalloys, wheat, alumina, petroleum coke, sunflower oil, mining equipment, JAC vehicles and other products.

In Astana, the heads of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan signed the Declaration on allied cooperation between the countries.

As a result of Rahmon's visit, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev presented the President of Tajikistan with the highest state award of Kazakhstan, the Order "Altyn Kyran" for his special contribution to strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
