Tajikistan will establish a Benefit Distribution Fund from the proceeds of electricity generated by the Rogun Hydropower Plant. This was announced by the Ministry of Energy of Tajikistan, Avesta.tj reports.

A special account will be opened in the Central Treasury of the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan to operate the fund. The funds will be directed toward the implementation of a benefit distribution program, which will come into effect after government approval.

Earlier, during a shareholders' meeting of Rogun HPP LLC, chaired by Prime Minister Kohir Rasulzoda, discussions were held on allocating revenues from domestic and export sales of electricity to social programs. The Ministry of Energy emphasized that the fund will take into account the interests of the population, which previously invested in the plant's construction through share purchases.

The construction of the Rogun Hydropower Plant is ongoing. Over the past two years, more than 9 billion somoni (over $818 million) has been allocated from the state budget for its construction. Additionally, funds have been secured from six international organizations.

According to the Tajik Ministry of Energy, more than 50% of construction work has been completed so far. Rogun HPP is Tajikistan’s largest energy project. Once completed, the power plant will be one of the most powerful in the region, ensuring the country’s domestic energy needs while creating potential for electricity exports to neighboring countries.
