The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Maulavi Amir Khan Muttaqi, met with the acting director of the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey in Afghanistan, Jang Onal, Eurasia Today reports.

The meeting discussed bilateral relations, recent positive actions in Afghanistan, the visit of high-ranking political and economic delegations from many countries to Afghanistan, Deputy Spokesperson of the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal wrote on his X-page.

During the negotiations, Maulavi Amir Khan Muttaqi highly appreciated Turkey's business position towards the Zionist regime of Israel and spoke about the start of trade with Turkey through the Lapis Lazuli Corridor and the opening of joint exhibitions in Turkey and Afghanistan through the joint efforts of Turkish and Afghan businessmen.

Let us note that at the end of April it became known that Iran had resumed the rail transit of goods from Afghanistan to Turkey through its territory along the Herat-Haf railway.

The designated Lapis Lazuli Corridor runs from the Afghan province of Herat to Ashgabat, then from the seaport of Turkmenbashi to the port of Baku along the Caspian Sea. Then it is planned to run through Tbilisi to Ankara with branches in Poti and Batumi and from Ankara to Istanbul.

Negotiations on the creation of the Lapis Lazuli Corridor began in 2012. Due to economic instability, unresolved security issues in Central Asia and weak infrastructure networks, the process dragged on for five years.

Ankara is pleased with the recent events in Afghanistan and efforts should be made to work together to expand relations between Afghanistan and Turkey, said the Turkish Ambassador to Afghanistan.

She added that Turkish Airlines flights to Kabul will begin in the coming days.

It should be noted that at this meeting, given the “good and historical” relations between Afghanistan and Turkey, joint efforts to achieve the expectations of the two countries were emphasized.

It is known that on May 3, in response to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, Turkey introduced a complete ban on trade with Israel.
