The trial against the former head of the National Security Committee of Kazakhstan (KNB) Karim Massimov began in Astana, Zakon.kz reports.

The case is being considered "top secret".

The KNB began a pre-trial investigation into treason as early as January 6, 2022. Then Karim Massimov and other persons were detained and placed in the temporary detention center.

On August 25, it became known that the investigation of the criminal case against Karim Massimov was completed.

Earlier, the Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan, Berik Asylov, said that the ex-head of the KNB could be sentenced to 17 years in prison.
