Turkmenistan and UN discuss strengthening cooperation on Human Rights

The prospects for strengthening cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UN OHCHR were discussed at a meeting between the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Ahmet Gurbanov, and Matilda Bogner, the Regional Representative of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Central Asia, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

Both parties emphasized the importance of multifaceted partnership to enhance democratic institutions and effectively fulfill human rights obligations.

During the meeting, issues related to the activities of Turkmenistan's Interdepartmental Commission on ensuring the implementation of international human rights and international humanitarian law obligations were discussed. Special attention was given to the implementation of the "National Human Rights Action Plan in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025," the "National Gender Equality Action Plan in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025," and the "National Action Plan on Child Rights in Turkmenistan for 2023-2028."

The participants reviewed the outcomes of dialogues held within the framework of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women and the Committee on the Rights of the Child. The importance of systematic work on implementing the recommendations from these dialogues was highlighted.

Additionally, both sides expressed interest in expanding cooperation with the UN in the field of human rights education.
