President Serdar Berdimuhamedov confirmed the initiative to open a UN Regional Center on climate-related technologies in Turkmenistan for Central Asia at the COP28 summit in Dubai, the TDH agency reports.

The Turkmen President emphasized the importance of signing a Memorandum of Understanding on November 13 of this year between the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) to develop regional programs aimed at transferring climate technologies to Turkmenistan and Central Asian states.

"We consider this document as the first step and a significant legal basis for considering the opening of a UN Regional Center on climate-related technologies in Turkmenistan for Central Asia," President Berdimuhamedov underscored.

The head of the Turkmen state also noted that Turkmenistan's initiative to establish a specialized UN center for the region with nearly 80 million people, unique natural resources, biodiversity, and simultaneously facing serious environmental risks, is gaining real prospects today.
