A representative of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan completed the first international course for senior customs officers on drug identification and law enforcement. The training took place from August 10–21 in Malacca at the Royal Malaysian Customs Academy (AKMAL), as part of the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Program (MTCP), Turkmenportal.com reported.
Course participants exchanged experiences and studied the practices of the Royal Malaysian Customs Service, including the organization of control at international airports and seaports, as well as the application of modern technologies. According to the service, the program was the first step in developing professional ties between the customs authorities of the two countries.
International training for specialists is of practical importance, as effectively combating drug trafficking requires the constant exchange of information, methods, and professional skills. This is especially relevant for Turkmenistan, given its geographical location and the presence of various transport routes.
However, the effectiveness of such activities will depend on the extent to which the acquired knowledge is integrated into the national system. If trained specialists share their experience with colleagues and participate in the implementation of modern control methods, the international program could yield long-term results.
Cooperation with Malaysia also allows Turkmenistan to expand professional ties. Regular joint training and information exchange could enhance the practical impact of such programs and improve customs authorities' ability to detect prohibited substances.
