“Turkmenistan is a country with extraordinary prospects, rich in natural resources with a political profile, which makes it an important factor in stability in the region,” said the new Italian Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Luigi Ferrari, on the sidelines of the Ambassadors’ Conference at the Italian Foreign Ministry in Farnesina, Orient reports.
“First of all, gas,” the ambassador continued, “is an important resource with reserves of 15 trillion cubic meters, which puts Turkmenistan in 4-5 place in the world, a wealth that is slightly less than half of the [gas reserves] of the Russian Federation,” the diplomat quotes Italian news agency Ansa.
“At the moment, 80% of this gas is transported to China,” added Ferrari, “our commitment is that this resource can flow through the Caspian Sea to Turkey and be available to Southern Europe,” the Italian ambassador added.
The conference of Italian ambassadors was held in Farnesina on December 21-22 under the motto "Italian diplomacy at the service of the country in a changing world." The event brought together more than 100 heads of Italian diplomatic missions around the world. The conference was held behind closed doors. However, some sessions were open to members of the media.
Recently, in the Turkmen city of Avaza, the three presidents discussed the possibility of opening a Turkish hub in Turkish coast of Meditarian see, which will receive Turkmen gas through the trans-Caspian gas pipeline through Azerbaijan. The issue was raised by Turkiye and supported by Azerbaijan. However, Turkmenistan has not yet given a final answer.
At the same time, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reacted to the negative statements of some Russian politicians and stated that nothing could interfere with the construction of the gas pipeline on Kaspii.
