Amendments to the constitution after the April 30 referendum in Uzbekistan will come into force immediately, Zakir Zaitov, an adviser to the Uzbek embassy in Moscow, said, TASS reports.

"The constitution will be the only law that will come into force without the president's signature. After the announcement of the results of the referendum," he said at a briefing, when asked when the amendments would come into force, if adopted.

On March 10, the Legislative (Lower) House of the Parliament of Uzbekistan approved the draft constitutional law "On the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan" and decided to schedule a referendum on amendments to the republic's constitution for April 30. This decision was later approved by the Senate (upper house).

In the new version of the Basic Law, the number of articles increased from 128 to 155, constitutional norms - from 275 to 434. It also introduced a norm according to which, along with the post of President, the same person cannot hold the positions of the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly for more than two consecutive terms. Chamber, Chairman of the Senate, Chairman of the Supreme Court, Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council of Judges, Chairman of the CEC, Prosecutor General and several other positions. The initiator of the constitutional reform was the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
