The United States opened a new seismic station in Uzbekistan, the press service of the US Embassy in Uzbekistan reports.

The University of California at San Diego and the Republican Center for Seismic Predictive Monitoring under the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan announced the installation of a new modern seismic station in the village of Karasai near Jizzakh, the report said.

The facility will become part of the US Global Seismic Network, which consists of more than 150 stations around the world. The US side will fully finance the station.

The station was created to better understand the world's seismic activity in Uzbekistan and Central Asia.

The data collected by the station will be available to users around the world, including scientists, engineers, students and the general public. This will help determine the location of earthquakes and reduce the risks created. The data will serve as the basis for the development of more advanced models of probabilistic seismic hazard, the report says.
