Uzbekistan buys electricity from Tajikistan

Uzbekistan has begun to purchase electricity in Tajikistan, the press service of the Surkhandarya regional branch of JSC "Quududiy elektr tarmoqlari" informed, Sputnik reports.

On days with abnormally low temperatures from 70 to 100% in Uzbekistan, the consumption of a number of districts of the Surkhandarya region is covered by supplies from Tajikistan.

Electricity is transmitted through the 220 kV power transmission lines "L-Regar-Zarkhop" and "L-Regar-Sherabad" from the substation "Regar-500" of Tajikistan.
Imported electricity goes to the following areas:

70% - Shorchinskiy, Altynsayskiy, Kumkurganskiy, Dzharkurganskiy districts;

90% - Bandikhon, Kyzyryk, Sherabad districts.

30% of Termez, Zhargorgon districts of the region, 10% of Muzrabota, Angor, Sherabad districts and consumers of Termez receive electricity through Uzbekistan with a load of 196 MW.

With the onset of cold weather in 2023, there is an acute shortage of gas and electricity in Uzbekistan. In this regard, the authorities of Uzbekistan turned to Turkmenistan for the supply of additional volumes of gas and electricity. The heads of energy companies and mayors of cities in Uzbekistan responsible for preparing for the winter period have been removed from their posts. Some of them have been prosecuted.
