Uzbekistan interested to strengthen relations with World Bank

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev discussed with Antonella Bassani, Vice President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia, issues related to further expanding strategic cooperation with the World Bank Group and supporting the reform program being implemented in the New Uzbekistan by this leading international financial institution, a statement of the press service of the President of Uzbekistan says.

During the conversation, the current high level and productive nature of bilateral cooperation were noted with great satisfaction.

In recent years, Uzbekistan has become one of the bank’s largest partners – the project portfolio has increased several times and currently exceeds $12 billion.

The World Bank provides support for important reforms aimed at ensuring the sustainability of various sectors of the economy and the social sector. Since July of this year, the World Bank’s regional office has been operating in Tashkent.

Priority areas for further expanding the partnership include poverty reduction, the transformation of state enterprises and banks, decarbonization, support for WTO accession, and others.

Particular attention was paid to urbanization programs, comprehensive regional development, modernization of energy and irrigation infrastructure, and support for the private sector.

There was also an exchange of views on promoting regional projects.
