In 2023, the leaders of Russia, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan launched Russian natural gas supplies transiting through Kazakhstan under a two-year contract between Gazprom and UzGasTrade.
"Currently, supply volumes exceed 5 billion cubic meters of gas. Additionally, Russian companies Gazprom and LUKOIL are successfully implementing several projects to develop gas fields within Uzbekistan," stated Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Plans include further strengthening cooperation in the gas sector, with no obstacles to this progression.
Zakharova noted that "all issues are being resolved constructively, and energy topics are included in the negotiation agenda at the highest and senior levels, as well as in interagency formats and at the expert level."
Following talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent this spring, it was announced that Russian gas supplies to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan are planned to increase to 11 billion cubic meters by 2025.
