The official representative of the Taliban movement, which came to power in Afghanistan, Zabihullah Mujahid, has denied statements by U.S. President Donald Trump that Bagram Air Base is under China’s control, TOLOnews reports.
According to Mujahid, the former U.S. president lacks accuracy.
"He [Trump] claims that Bagram is in the hands of the Chinese, while the base is under the control of the Islamic Emirate’s forces. There is not a single armed Chinese soldier here, and we have no agreements with any country. Why is he spreading such disinformation at such a high level? The United States is a major country, and its leader should speak with greater accuracy," the Taliban representative emphasized.
Mujahid also stated that European countries are seeking to establish direct relations with Afghanistan’s interim government but refrain from doing so due to agreements with the United States.
Some of these countries, he noted, still pursue a war-oriented policy toward Afghanistan.
"In some countries, wartime policies still dominate. For example, in the United States, the approach toward Afghanistan remains similar to what it was during the war. If they do not change their attitude and remove the obstacles they themselves have created, naturally, they will not be able to engage with us," Mujahid explained.
At the same time, he added that some countries do maintain official relations with Afghanistan but, for various reasons, prefer not to disclose them publicly.
