Tajik President Emomali Rahmon held talks with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung in Seoul as part of the Tajik leader's official visit, Avesta.tj reported.
The parties discussed strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, industry, energy, transport and logistics, digitalization, artificial intelligence, agriculture, tourism, and environmental protection.
Particular attention was paid to attracting Korean investment and modern technologies to Tajikistan. The parties supported the initiative to open a representative office of the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) in the country and noted the importance of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Economic Development and Cooperation Fund (EDCF). Investment opportunities in critical minerals, rural development, and funding for the construction of the Republican Scientific Oncology Center were discussed.
Rahmon also proposed increasing the number of educational quotas for Tajik citizens in South Korea, particularly in the fields of information technology, artificial intelligence, medicine, and engineering. The parties discussed tourism development and the possibility of establishing direct air service.
For Tajikistan, the visit is important as an opportunity to diversify investment sources and gain access to Korean technology and expertise. Personnel training and the development of new technological industries are of particular importance. The practical outcome will depend on the implementation of the agreements reached and specific investment projects.
