Countries in Central Asia are especially important to the European Union for monitoring the enforcement of unilateral EU sanctions against Russia, said the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, upon his arrival for a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, TASS reports.

Borrell announced that there would be a meeting with Central Asian countries at the level of foreign ministers. He emphasized that all ministers would participate in it to reaffirm the greater significance of this region, particularly in terms of preventing sanctions against Russia from being circumvented.

According to the agenda of the EU Council meeting in Luxembourg, a scheduled closed meeting of EU-Central Asia foreign ministers and the EU-Kazakhstan Cooperation Council will take place.

Earlier, Borrell stated that car deliveries from the European Union to Russia had fallen by 80% last year but tripled to Central Asia. He suggested that these vehicles might be resold in Russia.
