During the Summit in Dushanbe, Kyrgyzstan's President Sadyr Zhaparov called on his fellow leaders in Central Asian countries to collaborate on improving transit between the region's countries. He believes that the solution to this issue lies solely in "political will." Zhaparov made this statement during the V Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States in Dushanbe.
In his address, Zhaparov explained that eliminating barriers and obstacles, expediting border crossing procedures, and transit between Central Asian countries only require political will.
"As just one example, I can mention the recent opening of two border crossing points between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, which has allowed for a significant increase in the flow of citizens from both countries who use internal documents," explained the President of Kyrgyzstan.
Streamlining the flow of goods and services across Central Asian borders necessitates simplifying customs procedures and establishing efficient transportation and logistics networks, according to Japarov.
Furthermore, he stated that the development and modernization of transportation infrastructure, including roads, railways, and air connections, are essential for improving the movement of goods and services in the region.
It's worth noting that the issue of free transit of transit cargo across the borders of the region's countries is particularly relevant for Kyrgyzstan. In August 2023, more than 500 loaded trucks waited for over a week at a border checkpoint on the border with Kazakhstan, awaiting a decision from Kazakhstan's customs authorities. Only the prompt arrival of the Working Commission of the EEC EAEU at the border influenced Kazakhstan's authorities. Later, Kazakhstan's Customs Service officially cited the delay as being due to the testing of a new transit cargo control system.
