DUSHANBE - The European Union has removed three Tajik banks from its sanctions list: Spitamen Bank (CJSC), Dushanbe City Bank (CJSC), and Commerzbank Tajikistan (OJSC). The European Commission's decision was made on April 23, 2026, as part of the 20th EU sanctions package. The National Bank of Tajikistan officially announced this, Avesta.tj reports.

The lifting of the restrictions was made possible thanks to constructive dialogue between Tajikistan's regulatory authorities and European partners. These financial institutions were previously included in the 19th package of restrictive measures.

The National Bank emphasized that Brussels' positive decision is the result of systematic efforts to implement international compliance standards, improve anti-money laundering mechanisms, and strengthen the transparency of the financial sector.

Removal from the sanctions list is expected to open up new prospects for the development of Tajikistan's banking system: it will increase the country's investment attractiveness, expand access to international financial services, and strengthen the trust of foreign partners.

Going forward, the regulator plans to focus on continuing reforms, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring the national banking infrastructure fully complies with international requirements.
