The issue of the development of the automotive industry and the car market in Uzbekistan turned out to be in the election program of two candidates for the presidency of Uzbekistan at once. The industry was considered extremely important for the country by the current head of state Shavkat Mirziyoyev and his opponent Abdushukur Khamzaev. The Uzbek media write about the views of politicians on the development of industry.

Thus, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who is running for another term, once again spoke out against the monopoly of UzAuto in the automotive industry. He stated that he intends to bring four foreign manufacturers to the country who will build their car factories in Uzbekistan. This will increase the production of cars from 350,000 to a million a year, which will solve the problem with huge queues at UzAuto, whose cars buyers have been waiting for more than a year.

At the same time, three out of ten cars in Uzbekistan will be produced with electric motors, Mirziyoyev said.

His opponent from the environmental party, Abdushukur Khamzaev, advocated a complete ban on the sale of cars with internal combustion engines in the country.

Presidential elections in Uzbekistan are scheduled for July 9, 2023. 5 applicants have already declared to take part in it, one of which is a woman.

The elections are scheduled after the adoption of an updated version of the Constitution of Uzbekistan in April 2023, at which more than 90% of voters supported the changes.
