In Uzbekistan, there were an average of 103 cars per 1,000 people in 2023. The auditing company KPMG conducted an analysis of the vehicle market in the country.
The highest ratio of drivers was recorded in Tashkent, with 197 car owners per 1,000 people. Tashkent region ranked second with 136 car owners, followed by Bukhara region with 118, reports Kun.uz.
This ratio is lower than in neighboring Kazakhstan (220 cars), Russia (327 cars), Belarus (330 cars), and Turkey (175.7 cars). To reach a level of 240 cars per 1,000 people, Uzbekistan would need an additional 6 million vehicles on the domestic market.
In 2021, Uzbekistan had 93.6 cars per 1,000 people, which increased to 95 in 2022.
The total number of vehicles owned by individuals stands at 4 million, with 3.8 million of these being passenger cars. In 2023, new car sales in Uzbekistan grew by 33% on the primary market and by 13% on the secondary market, with auto loan issuance increasing by 87%.
Most cars were purchased outright (1.2 million), while 295,000 were bought on credit or leasing. UzAuto held a dominant position, accounting for 84% of total sales.
KPMG also predicts that Uzbekistan could reach the target of 240 cars per 1,000 people by 2029, provided that financing sources for vehicle purchases on credit increase significantly. According to the corporation, the production of passenger cars grew by 26% in 2023 compared to the previous year.
