In January 2024, oil workers in the Balkan Velayat of Turkmenistan increased oil production by 9% compared to the same period in 2023, the newspaper "Turkmenistan" informed.

In the western region, over 300 thousand tons of oil were extracted in the first month of the year, with significant contributions from the personnel of the units of the state concern "Turkmenoil." Leveraging state-of-the-art global-level technology, the concern's drillers managed to drill 9,929 meters of rock in the reporting month, exceeding the plan by 127%. Additionally, they commissioned three new production wells for the oil and gas production units.

The achievements were significantly contributed to by the oil and gas production administrations "Gumdanefte" and "Galkynyshnefte," as well as the drilling administrations "Goturdepe," "Ekerem," and "Kyorpudzha."

Turkmen oil, despite its "quantitative secondary" status compared to gas, remains a crucial factor in the country's energy independence. With its own reserves and a refinery with a total capacity of 16.5 million tons per year, Turkmenistan can meet the domestic market's demand for essential oil products. Surplus oil and oil products are exported, bringing a relatively small influx of foreign currency compared to gas. The official estimates for Turkmenistan's Caspian shelf resources range from 8 to 12 billion tons.

According to official data from the State Concern "Turkmengeology," the country has 32 oil and 82 gas condensate fields.
