In 2023, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) showed particular activity in implementing projects of humanitarian and socio-economic support to Afghanistan. As follows from the report of the financial institution, more than $35 million was allocated for these purposes, aimed at implementing 14 different programs, Eurasia Today reports.

The lion's share of the funds - $24.14 million - was transferred to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund (AHTF) to provide urgent assistance to the population.

The remaining IDB projects focused on strengthening food security, improving child nutrition, and developing health, education and medicine.

Economic experts note that financial injections from a financial institution can give impetus to the growth of the Afghan economy, especially if the funds are invested in agriculture and the energy sector - the country's key sectors.

However, a significant part of the capital's residents still suffer from poverty and unemployment, calling on humanitarian organizations to continue providing assistance. The Afghan Ministry of Economy also emphasizes the importance of international support in the fight against poverty.

Founded in 1975, the Islamic Development Bank aims to promote the economic progress and social development of its member states in accordance with Islamic principles and values.
