Representatives of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have submitted a set of documents to the UN Secretariat for the registration of the agreement on the demarcation of the state border between the two countries, reports the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan.
"In anticipation of the high-level week of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, the necessary documents were handed over for the registration and publication of the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Uzbekistan on the demarcation of the Kazakh-Uzbek state border in the UN Secretariat in accordance with Article 102 of the UN Charter," the statement reads.
It is noted that the presidents of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, signed the agreement on December 22, 2022. The document came into force on July 4, 2023.
The border demarcation agreement is the result of years of joint work between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan on the international legal formalization of the state border.
The foreign ministers of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York. They noted that the registration of the border demarcation agreement in the UN Secretariat is an unprecedented experience for the countries of Central Asia.
