Kazakhstan received 534.3 million cubic meters of water from Kyrgyzstan during the irrigation season, exceeding the planned volume, reports Kazinform.

According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan, the water is supplied via the transboundary Shu and Talas rivers. Of this, 394.3 million cubic meters were delivered through the Talas River, which is 14.3 million cubic meters more than the planned amount.

"We are actively cooperating with all our neighbors. In negotiations with Kyrgyzstan, two meetings of the Shu-Talas Water Management Commission were held this year. We agreed that during the irrigation season, our side would receive 180 million cubic meters of water from the Shu River and 380 million cubic meters from the Talas River. So far, water delivery has been uninterrupted, and on the Talas River, it has even exceeded the scheduled amount," said Minister Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.

As of today, 140 million cubic meters of water have been delivered through the Shu River. The delivery is being carried out according to the schedule approved by the water authorities of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

It was previously reported that the Zhambyl region received an increased volume of irrigation water thanks to Kyrgyzstan's fulfillment of agreements to increase water delivery through the transboundary Shu and Talas rivers.

Additionally, Tajikistan has already sent about 500 million cubic meters of water to Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan will send a similar volume by the end of the irrigation season.

Kazakhstan is the main producer of grain in Central Asia and relies on a regular inflow of water from the upstream countries -Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
