Uzbekistan plans to implement the "New Tashkent" project to create a modern city east of the capital, between the Chirchik and Karasu rivers. The city is expected to cover an area of approximately 20,000 hectares and house 2 million residents, providing them with all necessary infrastructure. The foundation stone for the new city was laid on March 18, 2023.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the projects for the construction and development of New Tashkent. He emphasized that the agglomeration will become a "green city," with special attention given to air and water quality, the use of alternative energy sources, and extensive planting of greenery. A "green belt" project will also be implemented, including the creation of a Central Park on 420 hectares and the planting of 200,000 trees.
Currently, a 50-hectare nursery operates in the area, cultivating 27,000 ornamental seedlings for future transplantation. Additionally, a greenhouse, a boiler house, and systems for storing and irrigating planting materials have already been built.
